Unless you’ve been living under a rock without wifi, you’d be hard pressed to find an adult who hasn’t heard the term ‘meal prep’ recently. It’s on instagram, videos are on Facebook, stay-at-home moms and gym rats alike are singing its praises.
What is meal prep?
In this post, I’m going to dig deep into the meal prepping trend to help you determine if meal prepping is really for you.
Let’s start with what meal prepping actually is. Meal prep is the act of preparing some or all of your meals ahead of time. For example, making your lunch for work or school is essentially, meal prepping at the basic level
What are the different ways one can meal prep?
There are a variety of ways to meal prep and no single method is considered superior to another. It all comes down to time, your personal preferences, and your budget.
I first heard the term meal prep as a part of a mom group in Honolulu. I was invited to be a part of a private FB group where the moms would pool together resources, bulk shop and bulk prep mails together. Later, they get together to cook all of the meals and divide amongst each other for storing later on to eat.
I loved the idea and was intrigued, but unfortunately that particular model didn’t work for me. It took a LOT of time. I couldn’t bring my kids. And, it took a LOT of time. No thank you.
